Cummins, a global power technology leader that designs, manufactures, distributes, and services a broad portfolio of power solutions, has taken the headline sponsorship for this year’s STEMFest, to be held at Mowden Park Rugby Club in Tees Valley.
The hands-on STEM exhibition will be making its debut in Darlington on the 6th and 7th March 2024 with an event to excite and engage students with interactive STEM activities.
The event will connect 9 to 13-year-olds with over 40 of the region’s leading STEM companies. These businesses are committed to providing job opportunities now and in the future, to support the next generation into the sector and to bolster the North East’s economy.
Businesses will be invited to deliver fun, interactive sessions relating to their industry, with over 1500 young people from Tees Valley's schools expected to attend the event across the two days.
Steve Morley, Plant Manager for Cummins Darlington, said: “We are thrilled to be the headline sponsor for STEMFest once again. Promoting the event is important to the development of young people in the local area, making it a special event for us as a business. We look forward to engaging with local schools and communities to inspire the next generation of STEM careers.”
“Jonathan Wood, Vice President and Chief Technical Officer at Cummins, added: “It is fantastic to be back at STEMFest in 2024. Science, technology, engineering and maths subjects equip children with a set of skills that are sought after across many industries. At Cummins, the development of these skills plays a significant role in our continued success as we design the power solutions of the future. Celebrating and showcasing the potential of STEM to the next generation is vital, and STEMFest is a great platform for us to do this.”
STEMFest, ran by the North East STEM Hub and delivered by RTC North, is in its third year, Claire Willis, Team Leader for the North East STEM Hub added: “Cummins have always been big supporters of STEM initiatives, so it is a great compliment for the event that they have taken headline sponsorship.
“Through this event, we aim to enthuse and engage young people in STEM, highlight not only the companies, but also the various career paths open to these young people, right on their doorstep.”
